For the tastings of Food Products, Monde Selection relies on the collaboration of eminent experts such as Michelin starred chefs, members of the Culinary Academy of France, master bakers and pastry chefs, university professors and dieticians. These experts award the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Grand Gold labels at the end of the selection process.

Evaluation process 

In order to ensure that the judging is completely impartial, each jury member must fill in a tasting sheet individually and independently. There are specific sheets for each type of product and they may include up to 20 different parameters of analysis.

This jury is made up of at least 8 experts and a jury chairperson who has many years experience of working with Monde Selection.

In order to obtain objective judgementof the quality of the product, the final result is calculated on the basis of the average points given by the different jury members.

The evaluation procedure not only takes into account sensory qualities such as general taste, aroma, texture, flavour, sensation in the mouth or any other relevant organoleptic criteria, but also other important parameters for the consumer such as ingredients used, clarity of information about the composition of the product, packaging, user-friendliness for preparations, instruction sheets, etc.

Thus, it is not just a simple blind tasting but rather an overall analysis of the quality of the product.

 

Features and further added values of Monde Selection:

Before tasting a product, the experts are given a technical sheet that explains the geographic origin of the product, the ingredients, the production methods used and any other information that is useful for correctly evaluating the intrinsic quality of the product and its typical features. The experts also take time to share their knowledge and experience in order to evaluate each product correctly and individually.

Finally, in case of doubt about certain quality parameters additional scientific analyses are immediately entrusted to official laboratories approved by the Belgian Federal public Service.

Based on the result of the evaluations, the quality profile of your product will be established by our experts. This graph will be  provided for free a the time of the result announcement.

 

Scientific and legal approach

Jury 

The experience of the Jury, of which some members have been collaborating with Monde Selection for over 25 years, is certainly the best guarantee of good and fair evaluation of the quality of your product.

It is these years of experience that make the members of our jury capable of judging products from all over the world with the subtlety required for this task. They have an excellent knowledge of the culinary cultures of the 5 continents.

Besides, the jury includes members from Europe, Japan, China, etc.

Our institute also ensures that the experience of our juries is updated by organising tastings abroad from time to time.

All the jury members are qualified professionals such as:

  • Michelin-starred chefs
  • members of the Culinary Academy of France
  • members of Eurotoques
  • master bakers and pastry chef
  • university professors
  • dieticians.

The evaluation sessions last four months with 20 products tested per day.

Sensory Analysis Report 

Upon specific request, a detailed evaluation report containing the observations and comments of our jury experts.

The report provides to the producers a better understanding of the points that the jury highly appreciated and those that are open to improvement.

The sensory analysis report helps you to adapt your products to meet the best international standards.

The analysis takes into account the intrinsic quality of the product following international standard criteria (ISO 5492:2008) including taste, aspect, odor, texture and other organoleptic criteria. Moreover, parameters such as the clear information, ease of use, instructions for use... are essential for a fair and global analysis.

This report can be obtained upon specific request.

Quality Labels 

After the various tests and tastings, the juries of Monde Selection award Bronze, Silver, Gold or Grand Gold quality labels to products that are outstanding in terms of the different evaluation criteria.

A label that each laureate may display on their product for 3 years.

In addition, Monde Selection awards Trophies to companies for the constant efforts they make to reach and maintain a high level of excellence.

Lastly, the Monde Selection experts may award a Prize of the Jury to one product in each category that the jury unanimously notices as outstanding for one of its qualities such as its taste or its innovative nature.
