As far as the product composition is concerned, the main ingredients that contribute towards meeting its stated objectives are fish collagen peptides. Indeed, numerous clinical trials on fish collagen peptides have shown promising results on various skin health parameters (elasticity, hydration, reduction of facial wrinkles, etc.), often after daily supplementation for at least 2 months.

Another such ingredient included in the composition of this product is vitamin C. This vitamin acts as an antioxidant and has a recognised function in the synthesis of collagen, which is a major component of the skin. However, current research is more advanced on topically applied vitamin C (often in combination with other ingredients, e.g. vitamin E), particularly in the form of L-ascorbic acid, than it is on dietary vitamin C.

Ceramides (via milk extract) are also present in the composition of this product. These compounds are not as well studied in this context as collagen peptides are, for instance. A few small studies do however report evidence of their effectiveness in improving skin hydration and elasticity, among other things.

Finally, the product also contains hyaluronic acid (produced by the Streptococcus zooepidemicus bacteria in this case) and elastin. Their uses are also documented but to a lesser extent, as they are more commonly incorporated in cosmetic products.

Monde Selection’s experts particularly appreciated the following aspects of this product:

• The consumer-directed information displayed on the label, which was considered comprehensive and transparent, and therefore likely to facilitate a good use of the product
• A relatively simple composition, without superfluous ingredients
• The presence of vitamin C of natural origin, provided by acerola extract
• The fact that, if the product is taken according to the recommended dosage, the amounts of most of the ingredients are significant in relation to the doses reported as effective in clinical studies. Moreover, the quantity of vitamin C is more than sufficient to cover the nutritional reference value for this nutrient.

For all these reasons, Monde Selection’s experts decided to nominate this product as a likely candidate to win the Jury Prize in its category.
