Mahou Maestra Dunkel immediately stood out to Monde Selection experts through its richness and expressive sensory profile. Visually, it displays a deep, dark brown colour with ruby highlights, topped by a creamy, persistent foam that enhances its visual appeal. The nose is led by malt, unfolding with notes of toasted bread, caramel, coffee and dark chocolate alongside hints of dried fruit, molasses and delicate roasted spices.
On the palate, the beer reveals a smooth and well-structured character. Roasted and toasted flavours develop progressively into layers of cocoa, coffee and dark caramel, supported by subtle earthy and lightly smoky nuances that add depth without disrupting balance. The mouthfeel is velvety and rounded throughout, while a discreet bitterness and gentle warmth provide definition and length to the finish.
Mahou Maestra Dunkel’s expressive malt character, layered complexity and refined balance deliver a convincing and contemporary interpretation of the Dunkel style, securing its place among the contenders for the 2026 Jury Prize.
