The Maotai family name is derived from the town of Maotai, which is located in the north-eastern part of the province and is considered to be the cradle of Chinese spirits. It boasts an ideal climate, abundant river resources, and a local population that has mastered ancestral brewing techniques.
Produced by Guizhou Renhuai Sanvinga Wine Sales Co., Ltd., the Sanvinga Black Gold 10 Years meets all the traditional criteria for the making of this beverage. More specifically, it is made in keeping with the “9873” technology, which includes nine must boiling operations, eight fermentations, seven extractions and three high-temperature operations (as well as three long rest periods). Packaged in a luxurious black and gold box, the symbolic black colour makes reference to nobility and dignity while the golden colour indicates rarity and preciousness. The colour of the beverage itself, a slight yellow, testifies to its ageing process.
During the tasting, this product received only the most adulatory comments from the members of the Monde Selection jury:
“The nose, marked by a moderate intensity and openness, develops the grain and the fruit with a beautiful harmony and complexity… The taste, just as complex as the nose, strikes a balance between woody, fruity and chocolate aromas, all combined in great harmony and perfect balance… It is both intense and long-lasting… A fine product…”
Unanimously appreciated by the Monde Selection jurors, this spirit, which is as exceptional in its presentation as in its expression, was the subject of the highest praise and largely deserving of its Grand Gold medal and nomination for the Jury Prize.
“Each year, one product per category is awarded the Prize of the Jury as a token of excellence in know-how and quality. In order to qualify, the product must be unanimously selected as a “coup de cœur” by the jury members. The winner of the Prize of the Jury is then selected from a group of just 5 nominees, which makes this award an even greater honour for the recipient.”
