スピリッツ&リキュール

A very complex brandy with a great deal of flavour

The Stone Castle estate is a little jewel nestled in the heart of the Rahovec valley, found in the district of Gjakovë/Dakovica located in the south of Kosovo in the northern part of the former Yugoslavia.

The company was state-owned in 1952 and bought by the Gecaj family in 2006, which then invested large sums of money in the latest technology and proceeded to completely modernise the estate.

The vineyards are all positioned on hills at altitudes ranging from 350 to 520 metres above sea level. Their placement has an ideal orientation to the sun, so the grapes can take full advantage of this solar exposure and absorb the most of the summer heat.

In addition to a wide variety of wines, the estate also produces a series of brandies prepared in the traditional manner that is generally reserved for the preparation of cognac. These spirits are distilled from carefully selected and hand-picked white grapes. The resulting product is then aged for five to ten years in five-hundred litre oak casks stored in the estate’s cellars.

Experience and tradition thus contribute to the production and sale of a product marked by great finesse that is characterised by notes of vanilla, cigar, spices and pine…

The 25-year-old brandy we are dealing with here makes no exception to this rule, quite the contrary in fact, and was therefore greatly appreciated by the members of the Monde Sélection jury.

Thus, in the tasting comments, one comes across statements such as: “The smell is very complex and composed of grape, caramel, mocha and tonka notes that are all very nicely balanced… The nose develops and evolves in a subtle way over time… The taste, just as complex, develops woody, vanilla, fruity and chocolate notes marked by a nice intensity… A long-lasting flavour with a nice fruity aftertaste…”

This wealth of qualities spoke for themselves, prompting the tasters to award this beautiful spirit a well-deserved Grand Gold medal as well as a nomination for the Jury Prize.

“Each year, one product per category is awarded the Prize of the Jury as a token of excellence in know-how and quality. In order to qualify, the product must be unanimously selected as a “coup de cœur” by the jury members. The winner of the Prize of the Jury is then selected from a group of just 5 nominees, which makes this award an even greater honour for the recipient.”
