Wild Old Tree White Tea

This excellent white tea is packaged in Taiwan by MSG Ltd, one of the leading tea producers in Mingshiguan, using leaves from ancient trees. These leaves are harvested in the city of Pushan in the Xiangpuang province, located in the northeastern part of Laos, bordered to the east by Vietnam.

The leaves are handpicked from wild forests situated at an altitude between 2000 and 2800 meters, in the highest part of Laos. The plants are protected from any pesticide or chemical inputs, allowing them to claim a 100% organic character. It is worth noting that the naturally slow growth of these trees imparts a wealth of flavor.

The tea is packaged in the form of an elegant compressed cake, wrapped in beautiful paper packaging. The wrapped cake is then presented in a charming imitation leather lady’s bag.

To prepare this tea, which can be steeped up to 20 successive times, a first rinsing infusion is required, and it reaches its optimal flavor from the fourth or fifth infusion onwards, before which it may exhibit a slightly resinous taste. Once this stage is reached, it provides a clear, amber infusion with lovely mahogany hues.

Both on the nose and on the palate, it offers woody and elegant notes, with a highly flavorful profile. The finish is both long and very refined, devoid of any astringency or unwanted bitterness.

These reasons led the tasters of Monde Selection to include this tea among the products as the nominee for the 2023 Jury Prize in the “Food” category.

“Each year, one product per category is awarded the Prize of the Jury as a token of excellence in know-how and quality. In order to qualify, the product must be unanimously selected as a “coup de cœur” by the jury members. The winner of the Prize of the Jury is then selected from a group of just 5 nominees, which makes this award an even greater honour for the recipient.”
