An aged Caribbean rum crafted with sustained aromatic complexity

With origins dating back to 1862 in Santiago de Cuba, Bacardí has grown from a family dream into one of the world’s most awarded and recognisable rum houses. Gran Reserva Diez reflects this heritage through traditional Caribbean ageing in oak casks, followed by charcoal filtration to produce a matured sipping rum. The word Diez refers to the Spanish for “ten”, highlighting the minimum ten-year ageing that defines the rum.

Presented in a 700 ml bottle with a classic silhouette and solid weight, the packaging conveys a sense of tradition and premium quality without ostentation.

The jury noted the spirit’s strong visual presence, with a deep amber to copper hue and brilliant clarity that speak to both age and craft. Its oily viscosity leaves elegant legs on the glass, reinforcing the impression of richness and maturity.

On the nose, Gran Reserva Diez unfolds with assurance and complexity. Bright notes of citrus peel and cedar are joined by vanilla, tobacco leaf and dried fruits, while underlying hints of molasses and toasted almond provide warmth and cohesion. The oak ageing is clearly present, yet finely balanced—contributing depth without dominating.

Tasted, the rum opens with a round, warm entry that develops into a layered and structured mid-palate. Flavours of orange confit, cigar leaf and dark sugar echo the aromatic cues, with spice and soft tannins adding further detail. The alcohol is seamlessly woven into the profile, giving body without heat, while the texture remains generous and enveloping.

The finish is long and gently drying, carrying forward notes of wood, citrus and soft sweetness. The impression is one of composure and quiet authority.

With its polished structure, aromatic clarity and refined maturity, Gran Reserva Diez affirms Bacardí’s legacy in the world of fine rum—and for these reasons, it is a finalist for the 2025 Jury Prize.
