The jury noted the spirit’s remarkable clarity and brilliance, which echo its purity and distillation strength. Visually, the liquid is limpid and luminous, creating an impression of precision and technical finesse.

On the nose, Zinku unfolds with measured complexity. The sorghum’s grain character stands at the forefront, flanked by earthy tones and gentle floral hints. Layers of spice, leather and herbs gradually emerge, with a whisper of fruit lending lift to the aromatic profile. Despite its elevated alcohol content, the spirit remains poised—the warmth is present but never disruptive, allowing the aromatic structure to remain both intricate and harmonious.

The tasting experience confirms this balance. The initial impact is bold, with the alcohol delivering volume and presence, yet never overwhelming the palate. Flavours develop progressively, with roasted nuts, tobacco and a refined spice line shaping a textured mid-palate. Notes of chocolate and dried herbs add nuance to the finish, which is long and steadily evolving. The mouthfeel is ample but not weighty, defined by a soft astringency that brings clarity and lift, sustaining the profile without fatigue.

With its layered aromatic palette, controlled power and lasting structure, Zinku Aged Kaoliang Wine stands out as a complex and confident expression of its type—and for these reasons, it is a finalist for the 2025 Jury Prize.
