Exceptional stout beer with a velvety smoothness

Highly renowned in its country of origin, the South African Castle Milk Stout is brewed by the South African Breweries, a subsidiary of the AB Inbev Group. The “Milk” designation indicates its affiliation to a family of stouts that are supplemented with a dose of lactose during the brewing process. This technique imparts a pleasant smoothness to the beer.

It is worth noting that this particular stout beer is brewed as a lager, meaning that it undergoes more of a bottom fermentation process as opposed to a top fermentation process typical for other stout beers. Castle Milk Stout is composed of malted and partly roasted barley, corn extracts, lactose, caramel and hops. The end product incorporates this set of ingredients in perfect balance and harmony while still maintaining a distinctive character. Upon serving, the product conveys a beautiful structure that contributes to a lovely first impression. The deep, dark colour of the beer is appealingly contrasted by a very light, yet dense head resulting from the type of yeast used in the product.

The bouquet opens with an enticing set of roasted scents and is rapidly accompanied by a luxuriant set of coffee and butterscotch notes that richly envelop the palate along with an unctuous smoothness courtesy ofthe lactose. Enamoured with this elaborate array of qualities, the Monde Selection Jury awarded this emblematic South African beer a well-deserved Grand Gold Medal.

“Each year, one product per category is awarded the Prize of the Jury as a token of excellence in know-how and quality. In order to qualify, the product must be unanimously selected as a “coup de cœur” by the jury members. The winner of the Prize of the Jury is then selected from a group of just 5 nominees, which makes this award an even greater honour for the recipient.”
