A food supplement designed ‘‘especially for your eyes’’

In a world rife with the modern trappings of technology at every turn, our eyes struggle to withstand the visual stress we inflict upon them every day. They strain against the brightness of our phone screens as we scroll away in the dark, riveted to our devices for over two hours at a time without regular breaks.

These habits also go hand in hand with a generally sedentary lifestyle that makes us lose out on the benefits of the great outdoors and natural light. The consequences of these habits are often very unpleasant, and eventually manifest in the form of eye fatigue and dryness, headaches, and blurry vision. Over the long term, these symptoms may worsen into irreversible damage to the retina, difficulty adapting to glare, narrowing of the field of vision, as well as a host of other age-associated ailments. These are exactly the kinds of concerns that the Singapore-based group Lifestream set out to address when commissioning their company Labo Nutrition to develop a food supplement known as VisionREGAIN. The product is designed to support ocular health in a number of ways, like helping protect them from the damaging effects of aging and blue-light exposure.

To this end, the product is composed of lutein and zeaxanthin, two carotenoid pigments that are naturally present in the retina and which have been the subject of numerous studies within the field. With additional ingredients such as astaxanthin, anthocyanins extracted from blackcurrant, krill oil (renowned for its high omega-3 content) as well as other protective micro-nutrients like vitamin E, zinc, and copper, it is not difficult to imagine why this product won over the Monde Selection Jury the way it did. The judges noted that in addition to boasting an impeccably executed and very promising composition that provides a significant daily intake of active substances, Vision-REGAIN also places a thorough and straightforward set of product information at the consumer’s disposal.
