A boneless white ham as soft as it is flavourful!

Produced in Japan by the company Marudai Food Ltd. located in the province of Osaka, the “Ouha” boneless white ham is a veteran at the Monde Selection annual Awards, and has been delighting the jury members time after time.

For the past 11 years now, it has won the Grand Gold at every tasting session, which is in itself a remarkable feat.

And this year makes no exception to the tradition, as the Ouha ham has rightly claimed what it deserves yet again. Quite simply composed of boneless pork meat, sugar and a few additives essential to its preservation, this product has undergone a skilful maturation process which confers it all its character.

Available in small slabs of 350 and 550 g, it is best enjoyed when cut into not too thin strips. The ham boasts a delicately marbled appearance granted by a precisely measured proportion of fat. This makes for a particularly soft and full-flavoured cold cut containing the right balance of seasoning.

The presence of nitrite salts leads to a visually appealing pink colour which would not be possible were it not for this ultimately very common treatment carried out in the curing industry.

Very nicely packaged, tied and vacuum-packed, this ham is highly venerated as a star culinary delicacy in its country of origin, partly because of extensive promotional campaigns on TV and in the press.

As one of the Monde Selection jury tasters noted, what we have here is “a very nice presentation of a very soft ham with lovely brine and a very good length on the palate, which is characterised by harmonious taste and great finesse. The presence of the fat offers up a nice flavour and contributes to an excellent moisture content.

A product that that very remarkably stands out in its category once again, fully deserving of its attributed Grand Gold medal!

In order to qualify, the product must be unanimously selected as a “coup de cœur” by the jury members.
